Beauty and the Beast, White Plains Performing Arts Center, Fri, 12/21- Sat, 1/13/2019: 2 & 7pm: Based on the Disney Academy Award-winning animated motion picture, Beauty and the Beast features spectacular costumes and scenery, a live orchestra and Broadway actors. WTD Fave Rave: New York Botanical Garden’s Train Show: Sat, 11/17-Mon, 1/21/2019: NYBG’s Holiday Train Show in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory features more than a dozen large scale model train sets (some super-sized) zipping across a quarter mile of track and a landscape of 140 scaled replicas of iconic New York City buildings made of bark, twigs, fruit, seeds and pine cones. Including, the original Penn Station and Yankee Stadium, Radio City Music Hall, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and the Brooklyn Bridge. An absolute must do event! (2900 Southern Blvd. Bronx; www.nybg.org)
Unique! Winter Wolves, Wolf Conservation Center, South Salem: Learn the mythology and ecology of wolf families and discover why winter is a magical time for packs in North America. On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays in January and February the Wolf Conservation center offers meet and greets with Ambassador wolves Atka, Alawa, Nikai, Zephyr, and their critically endangered red and Mexican gray wolves. Westchester Children’s Museum, Rye, Wed-Sun, 10am-4pm: This 6,500 square foot children’s museum on Playland Parkway in Rye is a great escape for kids during the winter. The museum reports that the average stay for kids is 2 1/2 hours. Just park them in one of the Makerspace exhibits that offers unstructured STEM and arts and crafts projects for kids. Here they can build their own Roller Coaster, hang out at the science tinker table, wind tunnel, book nook or toddler beach. Recommended for kids 1-13. Read our review. Norwalk Maritime Aquarium, Sun-Sat, 10am-5pm: The Norwalk Aquarium is a great destination with the kids during the winter. Some of their marquee exhibits include a Jellyfish exhibit, harbor seals, a shark tank, river otters, sea turtles and a shark and ray touch pool, The Aquarium also has an seven-story IMAX screen showing movies all day such as Pandas, Oceans: Our Blue Planet and Backyard Wilderness filmed in Westchester. Planetarium Shows, Hudson River Museum, Sat-Sun: 12:30, 2 & 3:30pm: HRM presents three star shows every weekend for kids of all ages. 12:30 pm shows, such as One World, One sky: Big Bird’s Adventure are recommended for young children 2pm shows are live. interactive tours of the heaven and are open to all ages; 3;30 pm shows such as Myths, Legends and Traveler’s Tales are for ages 8 to adult. Teatown’s Hudson River EagleFest, Croton Point Park, Sat, 2/9: 9am-4pm. The bald eagle’s return to the Hudson Valley after being on the brink of extinction is one of the greatest conservation stories of our time. Liyana, Jacob Burns Film Center, Sat, 2/9: 2:30pm: This animated film from Swaziland/Qatar introduces the audience to five orphaned African children collaborating on a fairytale. When their fictional character, Liyana, comes to life, the story tracks her quest to rescue her twin brothers. Connecting the children’s imagined world with the one they live in, Liyana weaves poetic documentary scenes together with an animated story to create an inspiring tale of perseverance. Ages 10+. Hot Ticket Alert! Kids Go Free! Rachel Worby conducts Savion Glover, Performing Arts Center, Sun, 2/10: 3pm: The incomparable Savion Glover, who first gained notice as the Tap Dance Kid, and created and starred in the Broadway smash Bring in Da’ Noise, Bring in Da’ Funk brings his unique artistry for an afternoon of music, and tap dance. Local! 36th Annual Young Artists Exhibition, Katonah Museum of Arts, Sat, 2/10-Sat3/3: More than 400 artworks by high school students from 40 schools across Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Dutchess, and Fairfield counties fill the KMA galleries. Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers, Everybody Loves Pirates, Stamford Palace, Sun, 2/24: 3pm: The award-winning Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers presents Everybody Loves Pirates, 52 minutes of fun featuring Lucy and Little Chucky searching for buried treasure and a gang of pirates who keep getting in the way. Tape Face, Ridgefield Playhouse, Thurs, 3/14: 7pm: Sam Willis, a multi-award winning New Zealand prop comic, busker, clown and mime was a 2016 finalist on Season 11 of America’s Got Talent, Tape Face returns in a hilarious new show! Here he returns to our area with his new show. So what does he do exactly?Tape Face is a mime with noise, a stand-up comedian who doesn’t talk, who performs a drama with no acting.
