What To Do: With the Kids Fall 2017: This is the big one folks! You have harvest festivals, farm festivals and the last of the summer carnivals. We have 57 (essential) kids’ events from the Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival and the Armonk Cider and Donut Festival to Disney On Ice. Expect lots of food, music and awesomeness.

Pride of the Hudson River Cruise, Newburg –9/1-10/29: 1 & 4pm: See the majestic beauty of the Hudson River on this 2-hour narrated river adventure from Newburgh to West Point taking in the sights of Washington’s Headquarters, World’s End, Mt. Essex Steam Train & Riverboat Ride, Weekends 9/1-10/22: Take a 2 ½ hour narrated train and riverboat ride through what the Nature Conservancy calls “one of the last great places on earth,” the Connecticut River Valley. The train passes farms, waterfalls, and wetland habitats with blue heron and egrets. Planetarium Shows, Hudson River Museum – Sat-Sun: 12:30, 2 & 3:30pm: HRM presents three planetarium show each weekend from a selection of ten shows for ages 5+ and 8+. The shows range from One-World, One Sky, a collaboration between Sesame Street and the Liberty Science Center featuring Big Bird and Elmo to We Are Aliens, a 360 ° digital planetarium show to The Sky tonight, a live tour of the heavens with a planetarium educator. Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard Festival Weekends – Sat-Sun, 9/9-10/29: They’re picking apples (and pumpkins) and rocking’ at Harvest Moon in North Salem. There are hayrides, pony rides, face painting, farm animals, bounce house, and great live music. Plus the best apple cider donuts, lemonade, funnel cakes and smoked turkey legs. Sheffield Island Lighthouse Cruises, Norwalk Harbor – weekends through 9/25: 2 & 3:30pm: Board the 45-foot C.J. Toth catamaran for a cruise to Sheffield Island on the Long Island Sound for a lighthouse tour, a hike through Stewart B. McKinney National Wildlife Refuge and a picnic and beach front activities. It’s been written up in the New York Times and The Huffington Post and regularly draws over 4,000 visitors. The kids’ book fest showcases over 90 popular children’s book authors including co-author and illustrator of the Pinkalicious series, Victoria Kann. Most of them will be onsite, doing signings and book readings for the kids. The show also features authors of books for young adults, children’s entertainment and of course the Great Chappaqua Bake Sale that raises funds for No Kid Hungry. The Family Reach Clubs of Byram Hills, Fox Lane, Greeley and John Jay High Schools color run is a 5K race (where you run through a mist of non-toxic paint). The event raises funds for The Family Reach Foundation (FRF) – a non-profit that assists families struggling with cancer. They have raised over $200,000 for FRF over the past four years. Black Violin, Performing Arts Center – Fri, 11/3: 8pm: This popular PAC act of “Wil B” Baptiste and “Kev Marcus” Sylvester returns for it’s third season after sell-out crowds for its genre-bending music that fuses hip-hop and pop with classical music. Fall Forest Weekend, New York Botanical Garden, Sat-Sun, 11/4-5 & 11-12: 11am-4pm: Explore the Thain Family Forest, the largest remaining tract of old-growth forest in New York City, and immerse yourself in the magnificent colors of fall foliage. See the Forest from a different perspective with a scenic canoe trip down the Bronx River and spot birds that call this woodland home. Verona Quartet, Caramoor – Sun, 11/5: 3pm: Verona Quartet inaugurates their residency at Caramoor with a program of spirited classics of the string quartet repertoire by Ravel and Beethoven, as well as a new work by American composer Sebastian Currier which they premiered earlier this year. Local! Chappaqua Craft & Gift Fair, Bell Middle School – Sat, 11/11: 10am-4pm: 32nd annual craft fair featuring over 85 vendors presenting handcrafted jewelry, designer clothing, handbags and accessories, original artwork, tableware, furniture, bath & beauty products, children’s gifts, floral designs, gourmet foods and more. Warren Miller’s Line of Descent, Tarrytown Music Hall – Sat, 11/4: 8pm. Every year TMH screens Warren Miller’s latest snow-sports film. In this, Miller’s 68^th iteration, travel with the world’s ski icons down the slopes from New Zealand and the French Alps to Norway, British Columbia and Jackson Hole. Biscuit, Emelin Theatre, Sun, 11/19: 11am & 1:30pm: ArtsPower’s musical adaptation of the children’s book series, Biscuit, about a little girl and her rambunctious puppy, from Alyssa Satin Capucilli and Pat Schories. The series has sold over 17 million copies and is considered a modern classic. Ages 4-7. (Emelin Theatre, 153 Library Ln., Mamaroneck; www.emelin.org)

Local! Ice Skating at The Harvey School – Fri, 11/24 & Wed, 12/28: 12:45-2:45pm: In cooperation with The Harvey School, Jim Whiting and his staff at Bedford Recreation offers two hours of public skating for all ages at The Harvey School ice rink on the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas. There will be a DJ spinning fave tunes and requests. Admission is just $5 and you must provide your own skates and no hockey playing. (The Harvey School, 260 Jay St., Katonah; www.bedfordny.gov)

UBS Parade Spectacular, Downtown Stamford – Sun, 11/19: 12pm: Skip the Macy’s Day Parade and stay local with one of the largest helium balloon parades in the country. When we were there we saw the Pink Panther, Popeye, Underdog (our fave), Nemo, Mighty Mouse, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Miss Piggy, Spiderman and Kermit the Frog. Plus marching bands, floats and street food. (Stamford Downtown)

WTD Fave Rave: New York Botanical Garden’s Train Show: TBD: The New York Botanical Garden’s Holiday Train Show in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory features more than a dozen large scale model train sets (some super-sized) zipping across a quarter mile of track and a landscape of 140 scaled replicas of iconic New York City buildings made of bark, twigs, fruit, seeds and pine cones. Including, the original Penn Station and Yankee Stadium, Radio City Music Hall, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and the Brooklyn Bridge. An absolutely must do event – if you’ve never been. Typically runs from mid-November to mid-January. (2900 Southern Blvd. Bronx; www.nybg.org)

Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat, Emelin Theatre, Sun, 12/2: 11am & 1:30pm: The Cat in the Hat turns a rainy afternoon into a wild house-trashing adventure for Sally and her brother. Local! Ragtag Theatre’s Cinderella, Chapp-Pac: Sat, 12/9: 2pm: This adaptation is performed in the street theater style known as Commedia dell’arte with larger-than-life characters, colorful song and dance numbers, and a message on self-worth for kids. Broadway World wrote that this winner of the 2016 Off Broadway Alliance Award for Best Family Show is “Perfect for all ages and people attending, with or without kids in tow.” (480 Bedford Road, Chappaqua; 914.458.5143; tickets)

Snowkus Pocus, Ridgefield Playhouse – Sat, 12/9: 4 & 7pm: This circus/ballet from Cirquetacular follows young Brianna to an enchanted winter wonderland as she encounters Jack Frost, the Snow Queen, the North Wind and a shape-shifter Azura. (80 E. Ridge, Ridgefield, CT; www.ridgefieldplayhouse.org)
