Misha and Cipa Dichter: Duets
The Sanctuary Series in S. Salem recently released this recording of Misha and Cipa Dichter’s performance at the S. Salem Presbyterian Church on May 4, 2016. The program titled “Duets,” showcases the couple’s mastery of the Piano Four-hand repertoire. The program features Anton Dvorak’s Complete Slavonic Dances, Johannes Brahms Hungarian Dances, George Bizet’s Five pieces from Jeux d’enfants, and Franz Schubert’s Divertisment à la Hongroise, Op. 54, D. 818.
Misha and Cipa Dichter’s duet recitals and performances with major orchestras throughout the world have brought new life to the repertoire, including neglected works and world premieres. Here the couple shares a fanciful Piano Four-hand program celebrating dance and the influences of Hungarian and Slavic music with works by Schubert, Brahms, Bizet and Dvorak. They play together on the same instrument, which requires remarkable precision and concentration. As the New York Times said of one of their performances, “One was struck not only by the synchronism of their musical impulses, but also by the vigor and elegance of the execution.”
Misha and Cipa Dichter’s North American engagements have included recitals in all of the major cities in the United States and Canada, as well as appearances with the symphonies of Baltimore, Chicago, Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, and Seattle. Abroad, the Dichters have performed in the music capitals of France, Germany, Holland, Spain, and Switzerland.
The Dichters perform regularly at many leading summer festivals, including Aspen, Mostly Mozart, Ravinia, the Hollywood Bowl, Caramoor, and the Mann Center. Following a concert by the Dichters at New York’s Mostly Mozart Festival, The New York Times declared: “One was struck not only by the synchronism of their musical impulses, but also by the vigor and elegance of the execution.”
The Sanctuary Series presents extraordinary keyboard performances in the heart of historic South Salem.
