Pandemic Players Zoom Into Fall with Austin Pendleton: The Schoolhouse Theater’s Pandemic Players continue their weekly (impromptu) ZOOM play readings into the Fall. These ZOOM Sessions have been maxing out – so sign up on their site – the weekend before.
Pandemic Players Zoom: Vieux Carreé: First up is Tennesee Wiliams’ Vieux Carreé – a semi-autobiographical play about his life as a young writer living in a seedy boarding house in New Orleans’ French Quarter. And the people he befriends including a manipulative landlord, a bouncer at a strip club, a gay orgiastic photographer and a society lady dying of leukemia and he drug addicted sexually ambiguous lover. YOWZA! See it on Friday, September 4 @ 1pm.

Actor/Director Pendleton debuted on Broadway as Motel in Fiddler on the Roof, won a Drama Desk Award for his performance in The Last Sweet Days of Isaac, and performed with Meryl Streep and Kevin Kline in Mother Courage and Her Children at The Public Theatre in 2006. He received a Tony-nom in Directing for Little Foxes starring Elizabeth Taylor and Maureen Stapleton. His credits on the big screen are prolific and include Catch 22, The Muppet Movie, My Cousin Vinny, A Beautiful Mind, Finding Nemo and perhaps most famously he was the mysterious Marty in Christmas With the Kranks.

Friday, September 18, 7:30pm: A.R. Gurney’s Sylvia: Gurney’s play about a Manhattan couple (Greg and kate) who adopt a dog, Sylvia (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) received Drama Desk not for Outstanding Play and Actress for Parker when it ran off Broadway in 1995. Greg and Kate were played by Charles Kimbrough and Blythe Danner.
It finally made it to Broadway in 2015 with Matthew Broderick, Annaleigh Ashford and Julie White.
Friday September 25, 7:30pm: The Color of Light with Tim Jerome: Tim Jerome reprises his performance as Henri Matisse in Jesse Kornbluth’s dramatization of the amazing (and unlikely) story about the creation of The Chapelle du Rosaire de Vence (widely considered his great masterpiece) that premiered at The Schoolhouse Theater in 2018.
Friday October 2: 7:30pm: Pandemic Players Zoom: Henrik Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People: Norway’s finest, Henrik Ibsen responded to the public outcry (Scandalous, Degenerate & Immoral) about his play Ghosts about adultery and syphilis with this comedy, An Enemy of the People.
Who couldn’t use a good laugh about that?
