0 Sanctuary Series Returns Live & Livestream: The Sanctuary Series is the first local event to return live (and livestream) at the South Salem Presbyterian Church for spring. The series, under the artistic direction of Mary Jane Newman, presents great keyboard and string classical performances in the historic hamlet of South Salem. Dark since the pandemic started, the Sanctuary Series has provided a series of virtual performances including a joint performance from Mary Jane Newman and her husband, who Wynton Marsalis has dubbed the “high priest of Bach.”
Today, they announced they will celebrate spring with two performances live but with limited capacity at their usual venue, the Presbyterian Church in S. Salem. Both performances can also be viewed live on Facebook. The first concert on April 18, features violinist Ariel Horowitz accompanied by pianist Eri Kang entitled, “Dialogues and Dialectics.” The concert will be performed in the sanctuary of the South Salem Presbyterian Church and streamed live for free on Facebook.
Hailed by The Washington Post as “Sweetly Lyrical,” Ariel Horowitz cannot remember life before loving music. A student of Ani Kavafian at the Yale School of Music, Ariel previously studied with Itzhak Perlman and Catherine Cho at The Juilliard School. Prizewinner at the Menuhin, Grumiaux, Stulberg, and Klein International Competitions, she has received numerous other grants, awards and distinctions. Her program follows the evolution of the violin and piano, two kindred spirits, as they have evolved together throughout the history of Western Classical Music with works by Dvorak. Mozart, Schumann, Bach and Franck.
Their virtual spring season continues with “Songs for Spring” featuring pianist Wynona Wang on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 9, 2021 at 4pm. She will perform a virtual concert featuring works by Beethoven, Ravel and Rachmaninoff. Born in Beijing, Wynona is an active performer in China, Europe and the United States and has won numerous first place prizes including the 2018 Concert Artists Guild International Competition.
There will be a limited number of advanced tickets available for purchase before each concert subject to protocols in place at the time. Check the Series’ website: www.thesanctuaryseries.org for updates. Questions may also be addressed to info@thesanctuaryseries.org .
