Six Hot Ticket Alerts at The Bedford Playhouse… approaching their grand opening on September 28, The Bedford Playhouse has some special programming that will sell out fast!
The newly renovated Bedford Playhouse, Home of the Clive Davis Art Center, opened its 167 seat Main Theater on Memorial Day with screenings of Singin’ In the Rain and ET. Construction on the Playhouse’s full space is ongoing and will feature two smaller theaters, an all-day café, a Tasting Room and a meeting room.
At their grand opening on the weekend of September 28-30, Playhouse Chairman Sarah Long and Founder and Board President John Farr will reveal for the first time the full Bedford Playhouse Experience, designed to be a community hub for movie fans, culture-vultures, townies and foodies throughout our area. All of the Playhouse spaces will be fully renovated by then. Including “The Clive”, “The Worby”, and The Playhouse Café.
“The Clive”, a small jewel of a cinema named after Clive Davis the playhouse’s largest donor and partner, will offer 40 plush seats for special events, intimate screenings and educational and cultural programming. “The Worby”, named after David Worby, board member and the first person to name a portion of the facility, is a flexible use space with removable furniture to accommodate music performances; one act plays and art exhibits.
Local foodies will enjoy The Playhouse Café, an all day eatery serving breakfast, lunch and light dinners, and featuring a full bar, on the Playhouse’s main floor. The Playhouse Café is open to the community whether you are buying a movie or special event ticket or not. And yes, you can even bring your laptop in the morning if you’re looking for a place to check your email and grab a cup of Joe and an AM nosh.
All spaces at The Bedford Playhouse are available to rent for business presentations, private screenings, birthday parties, bar/bat mitzvahs, organization events and more.
As the fall season kicks in, The Bedford Playhouse will offer a rich program of new movie releases, classics and family fare, as well as an author series, speaker events, music performances, art exhibits, educational events and more. A Cultural Advisory Board that includes JC Chandor, Chevy and Jayni Chase, Glenn Close, Michael Hveem, Paul & Cathy Shaffer and Chris Wedge will assist the Playhouse’s programming staff.
Throughout the summer, The Bedford Playhouse has offered a select menu of first-run films including The Incredibles 2 and Ant Man & The Wasp. Mission Impossible – Fallout will open on Friday, July 27. On July 30, Glenn Close will screen her new movie, The Wife, a special event we previously reported, that sold out in 48 hours. An Evening with Rooney Mara & Carol Screening, Bedford Playhouse – Sat, 8/18: 7pm: Go for the screening of Carol, the 2015 film from Todd Haynes, about a forbidden affair in 1950s Manhattan and stay for the discussion with Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and moderator Patricia Morrisroe after the flick. Carol, based on a Patricia Highsmith novel, stars Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara. The film received six Oscar and five Golden Globe nominations. Mara, who received an Oscar-nomination for Best Actress for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, tied for Best Actress for her role in Carol at Cannes. Get Tickets.)
First Reformed & Q&A with Director Paul Schrader, Bedford Playhouse – Sat., 8/25: 7pm: Released in May, Director Paul Schrader’s new movie, First Reformed, has developed a cult following. The movie, about a middle-aged pastor called to minister to a troubled young environmental activist and his wife, stars Ethan Hawke, Amanda Seyfried and Cedric The Entertainer. Schrader, the provocative director of American Gigolo and Affliction and screenwriter of Martin Scorcese’s Taxi Driver and Raging Bull will stay for a Q&A after the flick. Get Tickets.
John Patitucci, Jazz, Funk & Blues, Bedford Playhouse – Fri, 9/14: 7:30pm: The Bedford Playhouse presents it’s first musical act with this rockin’ night with the John Patitucci electric guitar quartet. John has performed worldwide with jazz luminaires Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Pat Metheny Wynton Marsalis, Michael Brecker, McCoy Tyner. On the pop scene he has performed with Sting, Natalie Cole and Joni Mithcell. He has also performed with Brazilian artists Milton Nascimiento, Astrud and Joao Gilberto and Flora Purim. Singer/songwriter Grei Pat will open the show. Get Tickets.
Animation Celebration with Bill Plympton, Sat, 9/15: 1pm: American animator, graphic designer, cartoonist, and filmmaker Bill Plympton leads an interactive animation event for artists of all ages! Bill will discuss his career as an independent animator, sample live drawings of his most famous characters and show highlight clips from his films, including Academy Award-nominated Your Face and Guard Dog as well as clips from his work on The Simpsons. The event will be followed by a Q&A with the audience and includes a free sketch for all guests. Mr. Plympton has hosted similar events at festivals all over the world, including private events for Pixar, Blue Sky, Disney & Dreamworks. Get Tickets.
Love, Gilda Documentary and Q&A with Alan Zweibel, Bedford Playhouse –Thurs, 9/20: TBA: Original SNL Writer, Emmy-winner and Executive Producer of Love, Gilda, Alan Zweibel hosts this screening of the acclaimed documentary about comedic genius Gilda Radner: her life, her storied SNL career, and ultimately, her valiant battle with ovarian cancer. Alan will conduct a Q&A with the audience after the film. Tickets on sale soon.
Lesley Stahl and Linda Fairstein, Author Event, Bedford Playhouse – Sat, 9/22: 4pm: Legendary journalist Lesley Stahl will lead a special one-on-one event with former sex-crimes prosecutor turned BEST – SELLING crime novelist, Linda Fairstein. From the unsolved cases that keep her up at night to college campus assaults — this event takes #metoo to a whole new level. Tickets include signed hardcover copy of her latest hit, Deadfall.
