The Orchid Show: Thailand, New York Botanical Garden – Tues-Sun, 2/18-4/19: 10am-6pm. This year’s show is homage to the wealth of orchids and rich cultural history of Thailand – home to more than 1,200 native orchid species. Look for the rainbow of Vanda orchids and the large arched façade in the style of a traditional Thai pavilion. Special Orchid Evenings offer after-hours viewings with cocktails, dance, and music. Street Smart: Photographs of New York City, 1945-1980, Bruce Museum – Tues-Sun, 2/18-6/4: 10am-5pm. This exhibition features 30 photographs, from the museum’s permanent collection, provides a glimpse of street life in the city during the post-war period. Westchester Jewish Film Festival, Jacob Burns – Thurs-Sun 3/16-4/2: The festival kicks off with Academy Award–nominated director Joseph Cedar’s (Footnote) dramatic comedy Norman: The Moderate Rise and Tragic Fall of a New York Fixer, with a fabulous central performance by Richard Gere! Around the World in 80 Days, Manhattan’s Gotham Radio, Schoolhouse Theatre, Sat, 3/18: 7pm. Picturing Love, Katonah Museum of Art, Tues-Sun, 3/19: 6/25: This new photography exhibition features fifty works from a range of periods and genres depicting romantic love, friendship and parental love for their child. REBEL Baroque, The Haydn Connection Two, Bedford – Sun, 3/19: 4pm. The Life of Birds, Music from Copland House, Mt. Kisco – Sun, 3/19: 3pm. A program of music featuring the sounds of parakeets, flycatchers, and other winged creatures. Birds of Paradise by Robert Sirota evokes the sounds of birds from the rain forests of Papua New Guinea, and is paired with a film by the Cornell University Ornithological Lab of these birds in their native habitats. The Robber Bridegroom, Arc Stages – Fri-Sun, 3/31-4/2 & Fri-Sat, 4/7-8: A bawdy Southern fairy tale from Alfred Uhry (Driving Miss Daisy) based on the Eudora Welty novella about a Robin Hood like character. The stage adaptation takes place in the late 18th century and features a bluegrass score – the only Broadway musical ever to feature such a score. The 1975 Broadway production received two Tony-noms including Best Actress for Patty Lupone. Barry Bostwick won The Tony for Best Actor in the 1976 Broadway revival. Lyndhurst Mansion Tours, Tarrytown – Thurs-Mon, 5/4-9/24: 10am-4pm: Take a one-hour guided tour of the historic Lyndhurst mansion overlooking the Hudson River. The Gothic Revival mansion has been used as a movie set for six major motion pictures including House of Dark Shadows (1970), Reversal of Fortune (1990), Cradle Will Rock (1999) and Winter’s Tale (2013).
