Where To Shop: Spring Fashion 2014
Oy! What a winter. Are you ready for spring? Let’s go shopping. We asked some local boutique owners about the new spring fashions. Here’s their take on the season’s fashion trends, what items should be on your short list, what’s the new black … and more.
Top fashion trends for spring?
Varsity-look pieces are very big. Varsity jackets with feminine fabrics are very wearable. Fuller skirts with micro pleats look very pretty and modern. And jumpsuits are huge. Black and white stripes and graphic prints. – Lynn Puro, March Boutique, Briarcliff Manor
Clothing that displays an authentic, all- American spirit. Shift away from clothing, shoes and accessories made in China and Taiwan and shift towards “Made in the USA.” – Soraya Zavieh, S&S Boutique, Armonk
Beautiful bold prints, color, bright yellow hues for a splash of contrast worn with gunmetal grays and metallics are big. Laser cut leather jackets, dresses and vest make transitional pieces into spring. Denim overalls and one-piece jumpers have made a major come back. – Lori Land, Churchill’s of Mount Kisco, Mt. Kisco
Runway styles that are translating into everyday wear?
Cropped jackets, urban jungle prints, and tea length skirts, all of which can be easily immersed into your wardrobe. – Lynn Puro, March Boutique, Briarcliff
Laid back Southern Cali style clothing. Loose, boxy choppy tops are big, as are sheer tops and wide bottoms. We will be stocking Lucky brand that is made in California. – Soraya Zavieh, S&S Boutique, Armonk
The flirty peplum dresses worn with a laser cut perforated leather jacket is a great off the runway look. We pair this look with a killer open toe bootie from Vic Matie from Italy. – Lori Land, Churchill’s of Mount Kisco, Mt. Kisco
What’s on your short list for spring?
A great pair of boyfriend jeans, maxi dresses, graphic pants. – Lynn Puro, March Boutique, Briarcliff
The sandals for spring are comfortable, affordable and very versatile for day or night. French Sole came out with some great cutout flats- very trendy, in neutrals for the season. Seychelles footwear is also shifting their focus, carrying sandals made in Spain and Italy for the first time. OkaB sandals are another favorite brand and Minnetonka Moccasins are also brands made in the USA. – Soraya Zavieh, S&S Boutique, Armonk
A beautiful bold printed scarf from Faliero Sarti, leather laser cut s/s jacket from Shosh or Transit Italy, a flirty dress and suede sandal wedges from Pedro Garcia. – Lori Land, Churchill’s of Mount Kisco, Mt. Kisco
What tips can you give for accessorizing, choosing colors, fabrics and shapes?
Pastels are huge this spring, with pink and orchid being the hottest. Try mesh overlays, sheer shapes and go for the deep-sea colors. – Lynn Puro, March Boutique, Briarcliff
Handmade jewelry from California made by Blee Inara, and Lucky Brand. – Soraya Zavieh, S&S Boutique, Armonk
Accessorize your spring wardrobe with chunky jewelry like a Swarovski crystal cuff to pop a solid color dress or a bold layering necklace for a low cut neckline. Contour your waist with a fitted cotton/cashmere sweater or blazer over a silk slip dress with lace trim. Use a bold scarf to layer around your neck for day and as an over the shoulder wrap with a sleeveless dress at night. – Lori Land, Churchill’s of Mount Kisco, Mt. Kisco
The new black?
Navy is the new Black! Orange gets a nod as well! – Lynn Puro, March Boutique, Briarcliff
Gunmetal Grey is the undefeated champion of the new black. Best selling non black color in our store for 4 years in a row. – Lori Land, Churchill’s of Mount Kisco, Mt. Kisco
What not to wear?
Low plunging necklines with exposed cleavage is a huge no-no in the office. Cover up at work with a layered scarf or a Hanro cami tank underneath. Layering essentials are a must in every woman’s closet: Hanro tanks in second skin fabric, slip dresses for sheer attire, opaque tights, silk scarves, short and long cardigans. – Lori Land, Churchill’s of Mount Kisco, Mt. Kisco
And here’s what the major media had to say:
This season’s color palette runs the gamut: pretty pastels to intense primaries with some heavy metals in between – Harpers Bazaar
Opt for punch: metaliics. – Elle
Orange is the new black. – Laura Levinson, Elle
Pretty pastels, cool bomber jackets, tea-length skirts and wide leg trousers – Glamour
An athletic aesthetic clearly took over the runways, most notably, baseball caps, tennis-inspired dresses and varsity jackets. Wear them separate or all together. – InStyle
Two words: pleated skirts – Vogue
