Stayin’ Alive Awards 2019 Grants
Stayin’ Alive Awards 2019 Grants: Armonk’s Stayin’ Alive Charity recently announced its 2019 grant award winners. Stayin’ Alive, Inc. is a 501 (c)3 charity that supports the First Responders of Northern Westchester. They combine funds raised through their annual 5K Fun Run in Armonk’s Windmill community, grants, and donations from individuals to provide equipment to emergency responders in our area that is not covered otherwise in their annual budget.
Stayin’ Alive has raised over $150,000 over the past six years and awarded 33 grants. Fourteen hundred runners have participated in their annual run and they have run over 28,000 miles. Volunteer fire departments, EMS, EMT’s and support services to these entities located within Northern Westchester are eligible for Stayin’ Alive Grants.
Michelle Berliner and Christy Saltstein started Stayin’ Alive after experiencing the devastation that Armonk, and specifically the Windmill community, experienced when Hurricane Sandy hit in October 2012. After witnessing the work of North Castle’s first responders, who helped save the lives of their husbands Andrew Berliner and Doug Saltstein who were injured in a hurricane related accident, they were inspired to give back to the community.
Their seventh annual run will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at Armonk’s Windmill Club. To view the Stayin’ Alive video made after Hurricane Sandy click here.
