Stayin’ Alive grants $30K to North Castle First Responders
Stayin’ Alive grants $30K to North Castle First Responders: The 4th Annual Stayin’ Alive 5K & Fun Run and Walk will be held this Saturday, May 13 at 8am. The run starts at The Windmill Club and continues through Windmill’s woodsy community. The Stayin’ Alive 5K raised almost $30,000 last year for equipment for North Castle First Responders that is not covered in their annual budget.
Stayin’ Alive is a 501 (c)3 charity started by Michelle Berliner and Christy Saltstein after experiencing the devastation that Armonk and specifically the Windmill community experienced when Hurricane Sandy hit in October 2012. They were Inspired to give back to the community after witnessing the work of North Castle’s first responders who helped save the lives of their husbands Andrew Berliner and Doug Saltstein who were injured in a hurricane related accident.
First responders recently demonstrated some of the equipment in Armonk Square that Stayin’ Alive Grants helped them purchase. On display were 11 High Temperature Face Masks that the charity granted to the Independent Fire Company of Mount Kisco; 2 GMI Gas Meters that help with the investigation of gas leaks granted to the North White Plains Fire Department; a Lifepak 12 Machine that can perform EKGs granted to the Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corp and a Lucas Machine that provides chest compressions during CPR granted to the Armonk Fire Department.
