Summer Concerts in the Park 2019: There’s free and almost free music in the parks all summer long for picnickers, sound hounds and anyone with a lawn chair and some time on their hands. Here’s where you can find the best local music – and some not so local.
American Roots Music Festival, ft. Milk Carton Kids, Caramoor’s Multiple Venues, Sat, 6/22: All Day: Americana festival darlings, The Milk Carton Kids headline Caramoor’s 9th annual American Roots Music Festival. Multi-instrumentalist Amythyst Kiah, a rising star with a old-time sound steeped in African-American roots opens for them at the Venetian Theatre in the evening. Beginning at noon, folk, country, bluegrass, gospel, blues & folk fusion acts perform on the Caramoor grounds. (149 Girdle Ridge Rd., Katonah; www.caramoor.org)
Free! Bedford Recreation, Thurs, Jun 27, & July 11-August 1: 7pm: Bedford Recreation’s summer music in the park series kicks off on June 27 with the Bedford School of Rock House Band at Bedford Village Memorial Park. (They do a smoking’ version of The Clash’s “I Fought the Law”; It’s over to Katonah Memorial Park on July 11 for the Mulligans who serve up hits from the Stones, Springsteen, U2, Talking Heads, Counting Crows, The Chili Peppers and some very funky Funk; Twist of Fate brings the steel drums and Caribbean sounds, including Reggae to Bedford Memorial Park on July 18; The White Wedding Band rocks the 80s with hits from Madonna, Prince, Michael, Cindy Lauper, Bon Jovi on July 25 at Bedford Hills Memorial Park; and The Sun Kings perform Beatles hits and B-sides at Katonah Memorial Park on August 1. Katonah Museum of Art Block Party, Sat, 6/29, 7/13, 8/10 & 9/14 & Thurs, 7/25, 8/1, & 8/22: 8pm: Music returns to the KMA sculpture garden with a properly curated selection of bands and performers across many genres, plus cool summer drinks and food trucks. The lineup features Hit Covers from The Shaves on June 29; Indie Rock from Will Moloney on July 13; Brazilian Jazz from Mark Morganelli & The Jazz All Stars on July 25; R&B from Sami Stevens Trio on August 1; Fan Favorites from Peter & the Four26 on August 10; Indie singer/songwriter Roxanne on August 22; and American Songbook from Mark Morganelli & The Jazz All Stars on September 14. Lasdon Park, Katonah, Friday, 7/5-8/2: 7pm: Gates open at 5pm for picnicking, strolling Lasdon’s 234 acres or checking out their new glass house conservatory. Just $10 will get you in to hear the Mclean Avenue Band do a pretty good “Hey, Soul Sister” on July 5; Singer/songwriter Dan Zlotnick who lit up the Pleasantville Music Festival last year will perform on July 12; Back to the Garden returns to Lasdon with their Woodstock era revue on July 19; Chamomile & Whiskey offer straight ahead Americana string music from the Blue Ridge Mountains on July 26; and violinist/singer/songwriter Deni Bonet brings her sold out Carnegie Hall show to conclude their summer series on August 2. Sunset Jazz at Lyndhurst Mansion, Thursday, 7/11-8/29: 6pm: Relax on Lyndhurst’s great lawn and enjoy cool music by hot jazz artists! Every Thursday from July 11 through August 29th. The grounds open at 4:00 pm, music begins at 6:00 pm. There is a $5 per person parking fee. This venerable series serves up Westchester’s best jazz from Colombian jazz to electric jazz to Bird’s 99th Birthday Bash, featuring Gary Smulyan. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or low-profile lawn chairs and may bring or purchase a picnic supper on site. (635 S. Broadway, Tarrytown; www.lyndhurst.org)
Free! Armonk, Thursday, 7/18 & 8/15: 7:30pm at Wampus Brook Park: Armonk’s Summer Concerts at Wampus Brook Park kick off with a performance from 1 Stop Pony on Thursday, July 18: 7:30pm. Best known for their Neil Diamond Tributes, 1SP will also perform songs from John Mellencamp, Johnny Cash, Jimmy Buffet and more. On Thursday, August 15, Ladies & Gentleman will perform a variety of classic, soul, funk and R&B hits in Wampus Brook Park. Picnickers are welcome!

Eddie Palmieri Salsa Orchestra, Caramoor mulitple venues, Sat, 7/20: all day: Celebrating its 5th year in collaboration with Jazz at Lincoln Center, Caramoor’s Jazz Festival presents jazz performed by phenomenal talent amid lush gardens and distinctive venues on their 90 acres of grounds. Treat yourself and stay for a whole day of music leading up to the evening headliner — ten-time Grammy Award winner Eddie Palmieri, one of the finest pianists of the past 60 years.
