The 10th Anniversary of The Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival
The Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival will celebrate its 10th Anniversary on September 30th at the Chappaqua Train Station. Mary Pope Osborne, author of The Magic Treehouse Series will headline the 10th Anniversary Festival. Mary Pope Osborne is new to the Festival.
Since its inception in 2013, the Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival has grown from 65 to 180 authors and from 4,000 to 8,000 attendees. Making it the largest book festival of its kind in the tristate area. This year 180 renowned Children’s Book authors and illustrators will attend the festival offering book signings, readings, and illustrator demonstrations. There will also be a bubble bus and books for sale. And, fan favorite Pinkalicious author Victoria Kann returns again this year to the festival.
Celebrating Diversity
In its tenth year, the annual festival, promoting community, inclusivity, and literacy will feature a larger selection of graphic novels, LGTBQ themes, and books that celebrate diversity than in years past. Some of the stand out books in these categories include Sonia Cherry-Paul’s Stamped (For Kids), an adaptation of the New York Times best-seller introducing kids to the history of racism; Stonewall Honor Award winner Maulik Pancholy’s Nikhil Out Loud; and Torrey Maldonado’s acclaimed children’s book Hands. Maldonado is also the author of What Lane, which was cited by Oprah and the New York Times for being an essential book to discuss racism.
The Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival is a grassroots, all-volunteer effort, with community members working together so children and teens can be inspired by their favorite authors. The festival gives kids and families a chance to meet and interact with the creators of their favorite characters and to appreciate that there is a real person behind the art and the words on the page.
