VAX Demand Drop Spurs Pop Up Sites – New Opening Guidelines
VAX Demand Drop Spurs Pop Up Sites – New Opening Guidelines: Governor Andrew Cuomo announced today that 60% of New Yorkers aged 18 or older have received at least one vaccine dose while over 48% have completed their full vaccine series. However those numbers drop to 48.2% and 38.7% once you factor in state residents under the age of 18. These numbers almost certainly have contributed to the continuing decline in New York’s COVID-19, 7-day average positivity rate which dropped to 1.45% last week. That’s the lowest since October 28 as the state’s daily numbers have experienced thirty-eight consecutive days of decline.
However, as the state strives to attain herd immunity vaccination demand has dropped. The state administered over one million vaccine doses last week – one month ago the number was 1.5 million. In an effort to make the vaccine easily available the governor announced eight new pop up vaccination sites at MTA stations that will be open from May 12 to 16. They include the MTA station in Ossining, as well as Grand Central Station. The MTA will provide free seven day Metro Cards to anyone receiving a vaccine at any of the eight pop up sites.
“Fully Vaccinated Fan” section plan rollout begins at Nassau Coliseum
As vaccination numbers continue rising and the states positivity rate drops, Governor Andrew Cuomo continues to adjust the state’s economic reopening guidelines. On Monday he announced that 50% of the Nassau Coliseum will be used as a “fully vaccinated fan” section for the upcoming New York Islanders Playoff series expected to start on May 19. Fans with proof of vaccination will be seated in this section three feet apart – one seat between each.
Last week the Governor announced that large scale outdoor event venue’s capacity will be limited only by the space available for patrons to maintain six foot social distancing, beginning May 19. At that time, patrons who are seated in “fully vaccinated fan” sections may be seated next to each other with no distancing guidelines at outdoor events. By June 19, the State will begin to pilot similar guidelines at large scale indoor events in fully vaccinated fan sections.
